Solar Eclipse

Sunglasses not good enough for Friday's eclipse, warn ophthalmologists

It is extremely dangerous to look at the sun without eye protection. It can scar the retina. Looking at a solar eclipse is like having a laser shined directly into your eye.

Motorists have been urged not to take their eyes off the road on Friday morning, amid fears the first ever “rush hour eclipse” could cause accidents across the country. With the eclipse due to take place Friday morning during rush hour, please do not take your eyes off the road.

Also, please remember not to look directly at the eclipse (not even for a single second), even with sunglasses on, it can still seriously harm your eyes.

Many thanks.
