I have just read an interesting letter sent into the Sydney Morning Herald about Children and Sunglasses. It is so true what they say, which is, we do not look after our Children's eyes enough. Please protect your kids vision now and for the future. I have included the article below. Many thanks for taking the time to read it.
Turning a blind eye on sunglasses for children
Shady issue: Parents should protect their children's eyes from the sun.
LETTERSWhy is it that adults wear sunglasses on a bright and sunny day? Is it because the glare makes it difficult to see and can cause a headache, or fear of looking at the sun which can cause blindness? Is it because of concerns about the problems sunlight causes over time, problems such as cataracts and growths over the surface of the eye?
It is amazing then that on any reasonably sunny day, you can see children without sunglasses accompanied by adults with sunglasses, even on the bright harbour and the even brighter beach. A hat is not good enough to protect the sensitive developing eyes of a child.
Even adults do not just wear a hat. There should not to be a need for a publicly funded health promotion campaign to get parents to provide sunglasses for their children. Neither do parents need to seek evidence of the benefits of sunglasses to protect the eyes of children from damage. Sunscreen and hats have become commonplace. Wearing sunglasses should be commonsense.
